Silversmithing, jewellery making tutorials and RUclips is a thoroughly captivating hobby that keeps me busy exploring new ideas.
Starting in metalwork 15 years ago my hobbies have evolved in my home workshop playing with metal, wood, silver, bronze and copper. A big and enjoyable part of the creative process is working out how to achieve designs using tools and jigs that can be made.
This channel is for anyone Interested in the pleasures of creativity, to share ideas and techniques exploring tips and tricks for metalwork and jewellery making.
I don’t sell stuff i’ve made, maybe one day if I can get my head around what’s needed for sales. I’m just a happy hobby having fun and enjoying simple things in life.
My favourite techniques are Delft Clay sand casting and silver chain making.
If you enjoy my content, please like and comment below any video and help me by subscribing to my channel this will give me the feedback and encouragement I need to continue … thanks ... Nick

Beautiful, I want to give this a go. What Guage wires did you use? I see you have mm but what are they in Guages? Thank you.
Зачем я это смотрел.
I love pouring my own. I do a lot of work with the junk silver.. Thanks
something so satisfying melting silver … shame gold is out of reach … N
@@Nickscreativestuff that's what I started with. Use to find my own in the Motherload of Cali El Dorado county. Still have a 4 gram nug I picked up off the ground on the American river. When I found it, it wasn't 100 dollars a ounce in the early 90s. Still have a 3 inch dredge with air. Have a great week....
Im envious of all you people across the Atlantic Who can pop out into the wilderness and find a bit of gold to play with … need to save up and organise a gold hunters holiday … N
Lovely work Nick, haven't been making as I've been full time looking after my 90 year old friend and neighbour. His family are all way down south so he had no one here but me. He died on the 19th six days before his birthday. On the day he died I was heartbroken and made a sun and Moon pendant that same day. I'll post a short to my channel so you can see it. Hope you and yours have all been well mate.👍🏴
That’s sad to hear John, end of life can be so hard for everyone involved. Nice to make something sentimental to remember him by. I’ll look forward to seeing what you created with him in mind … look after yourself … N
Beautiful creation,we are all so talented and crafty i watch so many videos of how special each of us really are .. WE DONT NEED THIS SYSTEM,WE MUST MUST STAND UP FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
I quite agree Michel, I love watching make it videos … N
What do you call it when you sit down to chainmail. Chaining? Mailing? Ringing? Thrilling?!?!?!
something like a mail meddling mulling meditation 😵💫 … N
Bar none hands down the best way to teach how to chainmail.
Cheers Taylor, I was struggling to film a demonstration until I figured this out … N
Hobbits, and lover rocks here, just wanted to say thanks for the inspirations. Looking forward to more content. Love is light.
Thanks for the love & light comment Taylor, mum wants another chain for her birthday so more to follow … N
You are a very impressive jewelry maker.
Cheers Bearfoot, all good fun had experimenting with ideas … N
Incredible craftsmanship, I'm impressed with the amount of work that went into making this. I've made chains before but nothing on this level. It is gorgeous! ❤
Thanks for that Lauretta, I suppose not having to make stuff for a living makes a bit of a difference. Having lots of time to play around with ideas allows it to be a fun process … N
@@Nickscreativestuff I agree 100%. I used to take orders and I found it took the joy out of creating, felt more like a job or chore.
A lot of people ask me why I don’t sell stuff on the Internet … Facelessly fulfilling orders it’s just not very attractive. occasionally selling bits and bobs to friends and family who get to see something they fancy … much more satisfying … N
@@Nickscreativestuff I whole heartfelt agree! I now gift quite a bit of what I make. I'll be watching. 😃
Nice to see a smile a shiny gift can bring … thanks for your support Lauretta … N
Very cool.
Thanks Bearfoot … N

What kind of torch setup do you use?
Hi Bearfoot, in this video I’m using My “Smiths Little Torch” that burns incredibly hot on a mixture of oxygen and propane … N
Can annealed copper be pulled through your drawing plate?
Hi Ian, yes definitely I reduce and reshape a lot of copper wire in my workshop with drawplates. I made a video awhile back to try and show the process. Here’s a link if you’re interested ruclips.net/video/69GhW5OiEiE/видео.html … Nick
That wire is so good for so many things
You’re right Hector, so many possible variations when playing around with this sort of thing … N
That’s a nice chain Nick 😊
Thanks for that Hector, seems to be turning into a bit of a chain making channel … good job I love making them so much … N
Love hand forged chain, looks so elegant and off main stream, thank you for sharing
Thanks woodgemdave, One of my favourite techniques is to try and make something different that I’ve not seen somebody else demonstrate … i’m sure it’s all been done before … but hopefully not on RUclips … cheers … Nick
Good
Thanks Aa … N
Love your content! Is that solder mixed in the flux?
Thanks for that Nathaniel, it’s called silver sold paste. A wet sticky solder that has a built in flux, perfect for small jobs like chain making … N
Very nice
Thanks for that HTrinity … N
Do you sell your multi hole mold frames?
Hi A S, sorry but I don’t. Being A hobbyist I’ve never sold anything on the Internet … N
You are always so inventive, Nick. 👍
Thanks Patoune, part of the pleasure of having a workshop to play in … N
This is good work, God bless you dear❤
thanks for that … 👍😎👍 … N
Whats the music?
I use storyblocks in the LumaFusion app for music and this track is called deep mind. Normally found by searching genres like Celtic folk chant … N
I wish you had the size of the rings before you stretched them on here.
Hi Jonas, it’s hard to insert a lot of info in a short version vid. I try to incorporate as much detail as possible into long play videos here is a link to the original if you’re interested ruclips.net/video/UUl6k61WjdU/видео.html For sizes I used 0.8mm wire wrapped around a 5.5mm mandrel … N
Omg wow I never k ew we could cast at home so easily! This has just blown my creative into a firework of possibilities! You know how the pearl is the IT item for men right now at around choker size. You could make a 6mm solid silver all ball chain . This has seriously blown my mind I thought we would need a lot of expensive equipment like a plugged in furnace etc I have already ordered some crucible tongs and a few graphite moulds as I will be wanting to recycle all my scrap from my making anyway. And from what I can see I would only need to purchase delft sand some flasks and baby powder the rest I have already woohoo thank you for sharing. Kirt
Delft Clay is a really nice product to use, it gets a bit obsessive trying to perfect designs and results. it’s definitely a cheap version of casting compared to other options however it is greedy for scrap metal and it quickly uses up all the bits and bobs that have been saved up for awhile. a large torch is important to help get the metal up to temperature reasonably quickly although tiny bowl crucibles are available from cousinsuk.com allowing smaller castings to reach temperature a lot easier … N
@Nickscreativestuff yeah I noticed you use a fan brush I gotta set of small little brushes. And small crucibles so I should be fine. Yeah I noticed this particular way of casting seams the most cost effective from what I have seen already
can be a little rustic at times, not as refined as vacuum or centrifugal casting … N
@Nickscreativestuff rustic is still a neon sign almost of handmade !
very true and well said … I much prefer it … N
Thank you!💕
👍😎👍 … N
Nick, you need to sell these to your followers! Not available here in Florida. I buy one from you in a heartbeat!
Hi Kirk, surprised to hear Lidl isn’t everywhere although the products aren’t always in stock, they come and go quick then you have to wait a year or so for them to come back in again. had a good look on the Internet to see if anything was similar and generic but the only thing I could find was the DREMEL VERSATIP BUTANE GAS TORCH. A lot more expensive, but the brand has a good name … N
@@Nickscreativestuff Thanks Nick for the information. I love watching you work, it makes so much sense how you do things. I've watched others and often wonder....why?
Thanks Kirk, i’ve learnt so much myself from watching other peoples content over the years so it’s nice now to be able to give a bit back … N
Just wondering if anyone knows what acid was used
it’s known as pickle powder when purchased from a jewellery supply company. The chemical name is Sodium bisulfate, also known as sodium hydrogen sulfate. It is sometimes sold over-the-counter by Hot Tub companies were they call it PH reducer. there are other options that work well like hot white vinegar saturated with salt also hot citric acid sold in the food industry or for wine making … N
Let’s suppose I want to make the medium/hard solder. Should I reduce or increase the amount of brass?
Hi Marco, I think you get a harder soldier if you increase the amount of brass mixed in … N
Super video!!! 👏
Thanks for that Marco 👍😎👍 … N
That is an incredibly beautiful chain!
Thanks for that Mandi, it’s much harder to film, but I do prefer making fine and delicate these days … N
Hey just a quick one did you ever make a video for a byzantine with no graduation? Ps love love the clear links to show us it helps so so much so thoughtful. Hope your well take care. Kirt
Hi Kirt, I did cover Byzantine briefly with a few other weaves in a video called three traditional weaves … here is the link … ruclips.net/video/AWz2n3_wnME/видео.html … Nick
@Nickscreativestuff Cheers bud I shall go check it out I'd like to try learn a simple byzantine to make for myself for my own enjoyment
it’s worth trying a few different aspect ratios between the wire diameter and link diameter to get a feel of what you like … I think the tightest this weave will go is about 3.5 … N
@Nickscreativestuff Hello I have a jump ring maker arriving shortly that makes anything from 3mm all the way to 14mm it's so simple in design so I should be able to use it. Hoping even on my rough days when I can't get out of bed I can sit there making jump rings. Won't be able to saw them open in bed but can create spiral part in various sizes
those jumping makers look great, especially if you were going to get in to production work making lots of chains. I now have a massive collection of knitting needles every size possible, good when you need small increments as some of them go up in size by quarter millimetres … N
Thanks again for your video. Very nice method for making the chain. Cheers. Jim
cheers Jim, lots of fun to be hard experimenting with ideas … N
Hi Nick… great piece 🔥 what size are the jump ring for the smaller knot? Thank you
Thanks Emily, the links were made from 1.3mm wire wrapped around a 6mm mandrel … N
@@Nickscreativestuff thanks so much… going to give it a try for a uni project. Such a cool looking chain.
Good luck with that Emily, hope it goes well. The trick to this when working with sterling silver is lots of an annealing at every stage … N
@@Nickscreativestuff Thanks so much for the tip… will definitely keep this in mind 👍🏻
👍😎👍 … N
So many little tidbits I will be able to use!
that’s good to hear K Ma … cheers … N
thanks nick! i feel i may be investing in more tools soon. be well all
Hi Denise, so valuable to invest in one’s creativity … N
@@Nickscreativestuff *making sure the wire is annealed well before twisting, or it may snap. i am making a sign for my wall with the laws of metal :)
Oh yes definitely my walls would be covered in reminders signs if I had the space. It’s easy to overheat links when annealing but you can’t over do it by annealing too many times. I tend to err on the side of caution and put them through the process as often as possible … N
Can you show us how you make you silver paste Thanks
Hi F j Van der Berg, i’ve never made solder paste before I’ve always bought it from Cooksongold.com … N
Very nice as usual, thank you for sharing <3
Thanks for that Anjairis … N
Mesmerizing to watch you work😊 Really beautiful piece❤
I do you really enjoy making these fine delicate chins these days, also helps economise with the silver I have left in stock … N
You are marvellous, very useful videos, many thanks What toarch you use and do you use silver paste easy or extreasy , many thanks and if link of their buying sites❤❤❤
Thanks Watch repair world, I made a short video about this small cheap torch I recently bought, here’s a link if you’re interested ruclips.net/video/ugEQeOstt1Y/видео.html … I tend to use easy solder paste from Cooksongold.com when only one sequence is needed … N
Good
